“Beauty and Protection”

Encaustic sculpture

6 x 10 x 6 in

Pedestal Piece

Materials: encaustic medium, fabric, photograph, powdered pigment

$520

This sculpture originated from a macro photograph of the Common Blue Morpho Butterfly. When closed, the wings show the brown pattern with "eyes" to help ward off predators. When open, a brilliant cerulean blue iridescent color is unveiled, mirroring the innermost beauty inside us that is revealed when surrounded by safety.

Macro photography was printed onto textile and layered with encaustic medium that was fused between a multitude of layers, carved and cut to shape, pigmented end to end and on both sides, and sculpted into shape. This sculpture is a pedestal piece.
