Materials: encaustic medium, photograph, textile, wire, waxed linen thread, powdered pigment, glass
These evocative wings are created from beeswax-layered photography, details carved into thickly clouded wax surfaces to bring the wings back to life before being cut, carved, and sculpted into expressive new forms colored with powdered pigment.
They are inspired by the process of metamorphosis— a process that repeats itself many times over the course of our lives and offers endless opportunities for change. The Metamorphosis Series celebrates the life force present in each of us as we challenge ourselves to become more fully alive. Each wing can be taken out of the globe and held in hand… a touchstone for meditation, an opening of the imagination, or a grounding through connecting to the element of the beeswax covered being.
