"Rise Up"

$980.00

Encaustic carving, (18 × 18 × 1.75), wall hung

Materials: beeswax, damar resin, photograph, powdered pigment, waxed linen thread, wooden panel

We are all called to rise up to face adversity in different times in our lives and now offers more opportunity than ever. Each of us has strengths and qualities that help power ourselves and one another through. This swallowtail butterfly was photographed in a biology collection at a university, yet has been enlivened once again.

This wall piece was created with a macro photograph of a butterfly printed onto paper and layered with encaustic medium that was been repeatedly fused between every layer, carved and cut to shape, sculpted and integrated into the circular panel that was darkened through the Japanese process of Shou Sugi Ban. The background coloration was created using a torch over powdered pigment to created an organic field that mirrored the energy of the butterfly. It is wired and ready to hang on your wall.
