"We Are Here But for a Moment"
Encaustic carving, (12 × 16 inch carving, 16 × 20 × 2 inch frame), wall hung
Materials: encaustic medium, photograph, powdered pigment, birch panel and frame
Walking through the yard one summer morning, I stopped when I saw the yellow moth in the water, hoping to free it. When I realized I was too late, I marveled at the moments in life that are fleeting and was reminded to appreciate even the smallest of things. The reflection of the tree and sky above and my own hand reaching over the space made me grateful to be alive.
Printed onto paper and layered with molten beeswax and damar resin, fused repeatedly between 15 layers, meticulously carved and pigmented end-to-end. This piece was mounted onto birch panel and framed, ready to hang on your wall.
