Materials: encaustic medium, photograph, paper, canvas, powdered pigment, magnetic wooden frame
Standing on humongous rocks in the tide pools in Morengo Bay, AU, I was pulled to crouch down and study the magnificent treasures that lay cradled in the multitude of crevices, each newly captivating. What a beautiful metaphor for the treasures that lay waiting to be excavated within each of us.
The photograph was printed onto archival paper, layered with beeswax and damar resin (encaustic medium), fused between every layer, hand-carved to create rhythm and detail, and colored with powdered pigment to convey my experience of being with this otherworldly specimen of nature. It was mounted onto canvas before being place in the magnetic wooden frame that can be removed if other framing is desired.
