Having lunch with a friend alongside her overflowing garden, my gaze was continually drifting away from our food and over to the abundance of undulating forms spilling over the edges of the wooden beds, beckoning me closer to enjoy their artistry. Seeing these two butternut squash blossoms grow against one another reminded me of the power of connecting to another human being. As I carved the layers of encaustic medium that obscured the macro photograph below, I reflected on the layers of relationship that are carved over time with both effort and incredible reward. May we all know the gift of connection.
