“Tiny Forests In A Big World”

Encaustic sculpture

11 x 19 x 10 in

Pedestal piece

Materials: beeswax, damar resin, wire, powdered pigment, wood

$560

This sculpture was created as I sifted through the loss of my mother, examined my mortality, and watched my nieces, nephews, and children navigate their journeys through life. I continue to be amazed by their courage to let go and experience what calls them, aware of their contagious energy that ignites change in my own life.

This sculpture was created by forming encaustic medium onto wire, hand-coloring each with powdered pigment, and adorning the surface with tiny droplets of wax before being integrated into the found wood from our creek. The spores appear to be growing out of the wood and perhaps discovered among the forest floor.
