Seasons are Changing

Greetings, friends!

The colors have softened across the hills, glowing in the early morning sun as only the long light of autumn can illuminate… This gentle light is one of my favorite things about fall, and goodness knows, we could all use more gentleness! I came upon this beauty drying her wings in the warmth of the rays, patiently watching me as I watched her. Simple gifts, indeed.

It has been so dry that I imagine we will soon be seeing muted colors dotting these hills, rather than the vibrant ones we all love. There is much to observe in all seasons as they change. I am learning to appreciate the subtle beauty of what is before me as I release my expectations of what I was hoping would come to be…

This is easier said than done ;). I continue through seasons of change in my own life, alongside our much-in-need-of-healing world. I remain grateful for my grown kids and their partners, my beloved family and friends, and for kindred spirits who connect over art, nature, and being a force for change and goodness in the myriad of ways possible. Thanks for taking the time to be here with me :). I know we are all busy, and connecting with you here in this space brings renewed energy and strength to my practice of art and life!

Speaking of art— I am delighted to say that I created some new art space in a void that opened up in my home. I recently acquired an old glass display case to store my works in progress and keep them safe from the jaws of my kittens, haha, and placed a vintage tabletop from a nearby college over the glass countertop, and ta-da— a wide open workspace now beckons (away from the clutter of my other workspace :)). I literally walk by it every time I let the dogs out and love how it calls to me, begging me to work! As I unpacked many bits and bobs stored away in little boxes, new potential unfolded as each took residence on the table. Some of these were started ten years ago!

It is helpful to remember that all of the hard work we do— even when stored out of sight— is available and ready to continue life when we breathe into it again. I am so happy to be creating and appreciate it more than ever. Making with our hands, no matter the work, brings a sense of satisfaction and engagement. Here’s to what is yet to come!

I wish you ample time to kick up your feet and enjoy the slow shift of seasons wherever you are in the world. May you be surrounded by gentle love, peace, and bits of joy…

Love, Michelle ❤️

If you’d like to reach out, I am always happy to connect! Let me know what creative things or bits of beauty are calling you these days or what you are interested in hearing about in this space…

Michelle lives nestled between the hills and sky, steeped in endless inspiration gifted by nature. She is compelled to make art that embodies empowerment, which comes from inner searching, speaking one’s truth, and reaching out to connect with others. Her revolutionary method of transforming macro photography into 3-dimensional sculpture enables new beings to emerge from imagery seeking release from 2-dimensional planes, reflecting the transformative quality inherent in us, all. She thrives on getting lost in the details of nature and pushing the boundaries of her medium, combining her love of ceramics, drawing, painting, and encaustic.

Her previous career as a social worker enabled her to witness the cathartic power of art, fueling her as she continues to use art as a healing force.  Her groundbreaking work has received recognition in the national and international encaustic community, and resides in private and public national and international collections.
